Sample Agreements and
Contracts
Due to the increasing
requests for sales contracts, bills of sale etc. we
decided to place some articles and sample contracts
online. We do advise anyone with
legal concerns to seek the aid of a lawyer to help
you with your contracts. The samples we have provided
are to give you an idea of some basic points to
consider when writing your contracts and are not to
replace the advice of a lawyer.

Rider of the Month-Brenda Prentice
Congratulations
to Brenda Prentice of Maynooth, Ontario.
Brenda has
qualified for the National Barrel Horse World Show to
be held in Perry, Georgia October 25th -30th, 2010.
Brenda started
riding when she was 12 to 16 years old, but
then stopped riding for a number of years. At 40 she
decided to start riding again and purchased her first
horse.
In the fall of
2008 Brenda was given the opportunity to ride a
horse that had been trained in barrels, and after about 6 rides, in 2009 she
attended the "Spring Thaw" in Waterford,
Ontario a yearly event held by the NBHA. Riding
her horse TC Docs A Gambler for the first few
rides, she then started riding Hes A Cash Deal. The
results from her first season barrel racing with the
NBHA have qualified for her to race at the World show
in Senior 3D with 3 slots to run in Georgia. This
year Brenda is planning to ride her AQHA gelding, A
Whisk of Luck who she started competing on a month
ago.
Brenda is coached
by Blaine Liedtke of Palmer Rapids, who also competes
with the NBHA.

Feed & Supplements

Feeds, The Horse & Hound

Steve Goldie graduated from the University of Guelph
with a degree in Animal and Poultry Science in 1979
and has been in the feed business since with 2009
being the 30th anniversary in the business. Steve
would like to extend an invite to send an email on
any feed question, either feed or supplements, and he
will choose a question to answer each month. To
submit your question please send to
Newsletter@trentriders.com
Question:
With
all of the supplements on the market that claim to do
this or that, what are the guidelines for proof that
the product actually works, and what should I look
for when choosing a product that makes a claim.
Answer: It's good to stick to the
"branded" or better known products since they have
testimonials and research. For example Herbs for
Horses has two patents. One for Mobility and one for
Breathe. This is unusual since these products are
herbal, but the Company did the research at the
University of Guelph and got the patent.
There is a lot of research on
pure compounds like M.S.M and glucosamine. In that
case you're looking for the highest purity.
Question:
My
thoroughbred mare tends to get hot when fed sweet
feed which I am told is common. She needs extra feed
though. She is 16.2hh and is about 100 lbs
underweight. What can I feed her to boost her weight
and then and maintain her weight.
Answer:
There are a lot of High Fat/High Fiber products out
there. I would recommend one of these products. These
products usually result in a horse being less "hot"
due to less sugars in the feed. To gain that
amount of weight you could feed about 4.5kg/day split
into 2 feedings. If you're not feeding near that
amount you should increase to that gradually.

Diamond Wool Saddle Pads
Saddle pads
are used under English, Western and Australian
saddles for a number of reasons including: to soak up
sweat, to collect dirt, and to make the saddle more
comfortable for the horse. Saddle pads help to reduce
friction and they provide comfortable cushioning for
the horse. Though there
are many styles and materials on the market today,
wool felt is the only one that has stood the test of
time in all disciplines. Due to their unique makeup,
wool felt saddle pads help to relieve pressure
points, disperse the weight of the saddle and rider,
reduce slipping of the saddle, wick away moisture and
eliminate hot spots under the saddle. Rarely are any
allergic reactions seen in horses due to the natural fibre of real wool felt. Diamond Wool
saddle pads come in a variety of styles, thicknesses
and and colours to suit nearly every rider.
In order to make the most of your
Diamond Wool
saddle pad and to extend it's life, it is recommended
that you care for them as follows:
1)
To avoid
shrinking, avoid hot water or heat during drying.
2) Occasionally
brush your pad with a stiff bristled brush. This will
help dislodge hair, dirt and sweat, which will extend
your pads useful life span. After use, your wool pad
should be placed where it can air out and dry more
efficiently.
3) To clean the
pad when needed: Use a soft cloth or sponge, a mild
shampoo or detergent free soap (such as Ivory), and
tepid water. Slightly dampen the cloth or sponge and
add a small amount of the soap. Work up a small
lather on heavily soiled areas. Rinse well with clean
cool water and allow to air dry. Diamond Wool
saddle pads are available in English, Western and
Australian styles at Peterborough Tack. Call or
